b. 1977 Westmoreland, Jamaica. Lives and works in New York City.
I am inspired by color, and the infinite ways it can be used to convey emotion. I like to choose bold hues, and work with heavy body acrylic paint and palette knives to create dense layering, texture and depth–an uninhibited approach with an imperfect look. My work is inspired by my daily life amid the backdrop of New York City, motherhood with the joys and chaos it brings, and the collective influence of my life experiences. It was suffering through personal trauma and loss that drove my need to express myself creatively, ultimately evolving into my art.
Kamiesha graduated from the Parsons School of Design in 1999, earning a BBA degree in Fashion Marketing. After starting her career at Polo Ralph Lauren, Kamiesha began exploring her artistic sensitivities through designing luxury handbags. In 2005, she launched her own company, Alric Suba LLC, which debuted at Barneys New York and was carried in stores globally. Continuing to refine her use of color, pattern and texture, in 2008 she joined renowned retailer Henri Bendel to develop its private label handbags and accessories business. Most recently, after starting a family, Kamiesha incorporated her years of artistic experience into painting, where her passion has flourished.
One of Kamiesha’s early works, Eden, representing a new beginning, was chosen as a regional semi-finalist piece for the 2016 Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series. While continuing to produce her art, Kamiesha looks forward to the opportunity to showcase her work more broadly.
Kamiesha was born in Westmoreland, Jamaica, and currently lives and works in New York City with her husband and two children. Her works can be found in private collections throughout the United States.
